Our consortium recruits PhD students and postdoctoral fellows in the areas of computational sciences and biochemistry/cell biology. Expressions of interest can be sent to info@mesi-strat.eu.
In the research group for Metabolic Signaling, Institute for Biochemistry,
Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, University of Innsbruck
a position is available for a project manager of the MESI-STRAT consortium
as of May 20th 2019 for 3.5 years.
Led by Kathrin Thedieck and coordinated by the University of Innsbruck (Austria), the MESI-STRAT consortium combines the expertise of 14 partners to establish the interplay of breast cancer metabolism and oncogenic signaling by systems medicine approaches. Spanning 7 countries, MESI-STRAT’s team is comprised of leading oncologists, modelers, bioinformaticians and experimentalists who will collectively pioneer breast cancer metabolism as a novel approach for the stratification of patients, tracking of resistance, and guidance of clinical decision-making throughout the course of endocrine therapy. Aimed at developing new models for knowledge-based stratification of patients into subgroups with different endocrine therapy resistance mechanisms, this pan-European undertaking, supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, represents an important step towards improving outcomes for these patients.
For the coordination of the MESI-STRAT consortium, we seek a project manager.
The project manager will be responsible for the day-to-day management, planning and monitoring, and performs the actions necessary to coordinate the different Work Packages and ensures their progress. The project manager will link with the European Commission and the partner institutions. He/she will oversee administrative, legal, and financial operations and reporting, and effective and efficient scientific implementation of the project.
The tasks comprise coordination of the consortium, communication to the partners and to the European Commission (EC), preparation and submission of deliverables and milestones at the foreseen deadlines, including the collection and revision of the required information from the partners, oversee the timelines and follow up on tasks to be completed by the partners, organization of virtual and onsite meetings and workshops, written documentation of those meetings, collecting scientific and financial information for periodic reporting from the partners, assembling and writing the reports for the EC, controlling of finances and resource expenditures of the project, support data management and documentation for large scale research and clinical data.
The successful candidate will hold a master degree in life sciences or a related discipline. A PhD degree will be a plus. Experience with the acquisition and coordination of consortium grants from the European Commission, and knowledge of the relevant EC guidelines is a strong plus. Also experience with financial controlling of projects is a plus. Demonstrated experience with the conception and organization of international conferences and workshops is desirable.
To be able to interact with the MESI-STRAT scientists and coordinate their work, strong scientific interest and experience related to the scientific focus of MESI-STRAT is expected and shall be visible in the application. Training in the life sciences or related disciplines shall be demonstrated by excellent grades during the studies. Ideally, the scientific experience shall be demonstrated by peer-reviewed original scientific publications, conference contributions, and/or relevant awards.
To make strong links with our European partners, demonstrated international research experience and mobility at European level is a plus.
The work language is English, and excellent English proficiency (written and spoken) is thus essential. English writing skills must be demonstrated by own scientific publications and/or grant applications. German knowledge is also necessary to communicate with the administration on site. If the applicant comes from an international background, German skills can be acquired through language courses, and the applicant should be motivated to do so. Knowledge of further European languages will be a strong plus.
High motivation and team player qualities are essential to work in our international environment and coordinate this multiply intertwined pan-European consortium.
We offer an attractive work environment with an excellent team, supportive and enthusiastic colleagues, and a competitive salary.
Please submit your complete application in English language including motivation letter, CV and certificates (preferred as PDF via email) by May 15th 2019 at the latest to:
